When you realize you are mortal, you also realize the tremendousness of the future. You fall in love with a Time you will never perceive. — Etel Adnan.
As we grow older, we do indeed fall in love with time. Every second, every hour, every day becomes precious. I wish I had known and understood this truth a long time ago. I should have, but I didn’t, but no matter how old we become it is never too late to learn.
I received word yesterday that an old friend had died. He was a brilliant and generous man. Nothing makes us fall in love with time as much as when we lose someone to death. We wish we had a few more minutes, hours, or days with the one we lost, but once time is spent we can never get it back.
Falling in love with time teaches us is to treasure the moment. I read recently that over four million Americans quit their job in August. I know economists will have well thought out opinions as to why that happened, but for this sentimentalist I believe that some of those four million realized because of Covid to fall in love with time. They decided that how they were spending their time wasn’t what they or God wanted them to do.
How about you? Why not fall in love with time?
