Loved In Return

The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return. — eden abhez.

Much has been written about loving, but not that much about being “loved in return.” In fact, I suspect that many have difficulty with the concept of “being loved.” We hold pity parties and beat ourselves up wondering why anyone would love us. We listen and watch commercial after commercial about becoming thinner, prettier, and sexier until our self image is totally destroyed. No matter how many diet, beauty, and fitness products we buy our vision of our selves never measures up. We spend sleepless nights and hours of worry about our mistakes convinced that “no-one could or should love us.”

The songwriter, eden abhor, provides the key to being loved in return. He tells us “just to love.” Being loved in return is not about physical beauty or perfect lives. It’s as simple as pie crusts. We merely have to love — our friends, our enemies, our neighbors, our family, and yes, ourselves. The key to being loved is to love.
