It is hard for anyone today to believe that spring is just around the corner, but before we know it flowers will be breaking through the ground. I learned about flower bulbs from my Grandmother whose five acres of back yard in Memphis would produce a visual symphony of daffodils every spring. I asked her once how she knew the daffodils would bloom every spring. She said, she didn’t — that was what was the fun of it all. She could provide the bulbs the best soil and just the right amount of room in the flower bed and water, but it was up to the bulb to stretch to the sun – the sun being something that the bulb never sees but feels and senses.
We are not unlike a daffodil bulb in a sense. We owe it to ourselves to stretch out to God – who we never see, but sense his presence. Our soul and spirit are like the bud in that they somehow communicate with God and long to partake of his goodness. Much like my grandmother’s daffodils in the end it is up to us stand in the openings of the present moment and with all the breadth and length of our faculties stretch to receive what God is always ready to give inn abundance — love.
So for now, stay warm; prepare your body, mind, and soul; and get ready to bloom in the sight of God.
