Repentance

When I hear the word “Repent” I think of the revival tents of my youth and the shouts from the preacher to “repent.” “Repentance” in fact is everywhere in the New Testament. John the Baptist (Mt 3:2), Jesus (Mt. 4:17), Peter (Acts 2:38) and even in Revelation the seventh church is told “be zealous and repent.” (Rev. 3:19).

So we ask what exactly does it mean to “repent.” I read a good definition lately. “Repentance is not an emotion. It is not feeling sorry for your sins. It is a decision. It is deciding that you have been wrong you can manage your own life and be your own God….
When we “repent” we make a decision quit doing things the same old way, thinking the same old thoughts and expecting a different outcome. It is a decision to follow a path toward peace. It is saying no to the world and yes to God.
