For you always have the poor with you — Matthew 26:11.
Jesus reminds us that poverty for some will always be with us. So will our obligation to make sure that no one is in need. No one should lack for food, shelter, or medical care. The care of our neighbors does not fall on God’s shoulders, but ours.
When we feed and care the poor, we join the angels.
