We know that all of us possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. — 1 Corinthians 8:1.
There is a phrase in the law called “mere puffery.” Better known as “blowing out hot air.” Don’t get me wrong knowledge is a good thing, but love and respect build character. When my eyes turn to Washington, DC these days I worry. Yes, this nation has faced hard times before, but it never lacked respect for individuals, offices, or institutions. We always loved each other, and loved our country. We disagreed but always with a healthy respect for the other opinion.
Being smart as a whip is quite an accomplishment, but if it isn’t tempered by love and respect it is no more than mere puffery.
