One of the toughest parts of getting older are the days you turn on your computer, go to the local obituaries, and see that there is a good reason why your heart felt empty that morning — a friend has died. Today was one of those days, and someday I will tell you about one of the greatest souls I ever met — Herb Hoelter.
Today I am in shock, and words escape. Isn’t it interesting that when we read an obituary our memories of that person don’t go to what is on paper. We might learn something like his uncle fought in WW2 or she belonged to the DAR, but as we read the background, our minds go to a camping trip we took in college, a ball game at Fenway Park, or late night discussion where we solved the world’s problems.
It is difficult to describe the heart and soul of a person, but it’s worth the effort.
