Anybody can become angry — that is easy; but to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way — that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy. — Aristotle
The above reminds me of St. Augustine’s famous quote — Abstinence is far easier than perfect moderation.
Is there ever a time for anger. Most would say — anger at injustice for example. Anger does not necessarily mean violence. In fact, many suggest that one of the most effective means of expressing anger is by non-violence and civil disobedience.
The mere thought process of going down the checklist — right person, degree, time, purpose, and way — suggests that one’s anger is not going to get out of control.
Try using the checklist when you feel your blood staring to boil, and let me know how it works out.
