I think all of us who are on a spiritual journey envy those who have a major, even sensational, spiritual experience. Moses had the burning bush, Mary a visit from Gabriel, and Saul/Paul had a revelation in the desert.
Lent usually doesn’t qualify as a sudden sensational spiritual experience but can be just as meaningful, if not more so. The Lenten way includes discouragement, missteps, and requires humility and courage. The path to spirituality during Lent teaches patience, forgiveness, and for each is uniquely our own. The pace of our journey gradually finds harmony with the other rhythms of our life. And as we pick up and use the spiritual tools that God lays at our feet, we are transformed and improved.
God doesn’t need to appear in a burning bush for us, we have Lent.
