This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. — George Bernard Shaw
I overdid yesterday at the PGA golf tournament. My “clod of ailments” after walking for four hours had me forget for a moment how glorious it was to be outside on a beautiful and moderate temperature wise day, and attending an event that for most of my life never dreamed I would be attending.
Now I know that Shaw isn’t suggesting that I go out an watch a golf tournament, but instead is encouraging me to seek out my life’s purpose and becoming a force of nature in such an effort. But there is something to be said for a moment or two of pure joy.
I sometimes think much like the First Corinthians “Childish things” that need to be put away, so to are the “little clod of ailments and grievances.”
