This weekend I was overwhelmed by a thoughtful act of a Charlotte friend. She mentioned my book in a national magazine interview as one of her favorites. It was a small thing to her, but it was overwhelming to me. I won’t bore you with why it was so special, but it was and then some.
When I recovered my composure to thank her, she shrugged it off saying that what she had done “was nothing.” That is the way she is, it didn’t occur to her to do anything else but be thoughtful and to do something nice for a friend.
This whole event made me think about how easy it is to be thoughtful, and how we can hurt someone when we are not. I bet you can remember the last time someone was thoughtful, and to the corollary you can probably remember when someone was thoughtless.
This whole series of events made me realize and be even more conscious of how important it is to be thoughtful. How easy it is to be thoughtful, and to make it part of who I am just like my Charlotte friend does and is.
A lot of life’s lessons are taught in small acts of kindness and thoughtfulness. Hopefully I too can become a teacher.
