On This Rock

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church. — Matthew 16:18

Many of us relate to Peter myself included. Why? Because he screwed up every now and then in his understanding and relationship with Jesus. He brings me hope because of his denials, his eagerness, and his humanity when he fails. His story tells me that despite my failures I have a place in God’s community and a role to play. His story also teaches me to make room for other screw ups in my life and community. If I am welcome so are they.
