It has been a week since Lent has begun. I hope you all have been faithful to your Lenten program, but for those who might have slipped or not shifted into high gear yet, have hope. Maybe that cookie was too tempting, that glass of wine went perfect with a special meal, or demands at work prevented working at the soup kitchen, have hope.
Our Lenten journey is all about working on our relationship with God and he/she is all about love, forgiveness, and caring, not judging. Peter denied God’s son three times. David and Solomon would make some of our presidents look like choir boys, and just about every early Saint went to prison one time or the other. Our journey is not about beating ourselves up over our failures. It is about talking to God by prayer and meditation, serving our neighbor, and improving ourself with sacrifice.
As you get into a groove during Lent, focus on being more like God with love, forgiveness, and caring for you family, friends, and neighbors. That cookie or glass of wine won’t ruin Lent, but moving farther away from God will.
