Nothing To Give Up

During Lent we spend a lot of time talking and thinking about the sacrifice we make for forty days. “What did you give up for Lent?” is probably the most common subject at cocktail parties during the Lenten season, even more so than one’s neighbor’s cosmetic surgery or new car. The funny part of this whole sacrifice thing is very little is ever mentioned about those who have nothing to give up for Lent. Their whole life is a sacrifice working for wages below what they can live on so the rest of us can live life that enable us to give up a little for forty days.

During Lent we also are supposed to spend more time talking to God. Consider talking to God about those who have nothing to give up and what you can do about it. I think God would enjoy that conversation.
