Something For The Spirit To Use

The body provides something for the spirit to look after and use. —  Alan Turing

My knee replacement is a week away, and after several other orthopedic disasters this spring Turing’s words hit home. I feel like I haven’t done a very good job of “looking after” my body. Of course, part of all this is due to nature’s natural way of telling us that we are getting older and as a consequence we need to pay more attention to our personal home for our spirit.

Based on a lot of experience I do know that the when the body is hurting the pain does sap the spirit. Turing understood this. When the body is suffering we are reminded of our fragility and no one is exempt from the affects of illness.

Do not neglect the body thinking you are better off paying all your attention to your soul. The soul will not appreciate your sacrifice.
