Wednesday in Lent

Marsilio Franco wrote that you meet yourself in a friend. Seeing ourselves in another allows us to know better who it is that is seeking their destiny. A true friend does more than merely supporting us and allowing us to have a perspective to our actions. A friend knows our destiny better than we do.

We can have this type of relationship with God. God knows what we are trying to do and what we are trying to be. Like with a good friend who is an extension of our self and we are an extension of the friend. We are followed, supported, accompanied, and sometimes led by God to our destiny. God’s love surrounds us like a halo and brings our heart into action.

God like a good friend doesn’t take away anxiety but helps us deal with it, perhaps minimize it, and leads us to another essential kind of love—love of humanity.
