Thursday in the Third Week of Lent

What do I mean when I say, “ Lent is a spiritual journey?” I read recently that spirituality is all about cultivating an ever widening perspective. This resonates with me, for I look on the Lenten season’s process of self-examination as an opportunity to “look at things differently.” Our view today of our life and our problems is only one view. During Lent we look at the same issues from different angles and with different eyes.

I talked before about the “what ifs” in our life and how they cannot change the outcome of the present. However,  certain “what ifs” during introspection can be helpful. Sufis suggest asking yourself – What if things are not as I thought, what if they are about something entirely different. What if I am much more than the limited self I thought I was, and what if my problems are really about the unfolding of God’s potential through me.

These type of questions and the answers we hear, take us a long way down our spiritual path.

Editors Note: You might see my friend, Tom’s, influence on me with this one. W.
