Monday In Holy Week

That’s right its Holy Week already and soon you can open that bottle of wine, box of chocolates, or in my case have a pizza with extra sausage. This Palm Sunday there was an article in the Times about Bonnie Raitt and her new album, Slipstream. As many of you know I’m a huge fan, and thanks to a friend had the opportunity to meet and talk to her. She’s as real as it gets. In the article she says, “she did a lot of work on herself during the break, … built myself slowly, learned about some things, let some feelings out. I hope it shows….”

I thought she’s describing a Lenten process. Through sacrifice, meditation, and prayer we’ve been building our spiritual selves slowly. We’ve learned a little about ourselves. In our prayers we let some feelings out. In this Holy Week we concentrate on these items especially as we symbolically go through Christ’s last days.

Yet, the true test of our Lenten discipline is in Bonnie’s last words – I hope it shows. What will we do with our Easter new self? Will we sing?
