Whispers of God

Be silent, O all flesh, before the Lord. – Zech. 2:13

Be earth, with all her scenes, withdrawn;

Let noise and vanity be gone:

In secret silence of the mind,

My heaven, and there my God I find.  I. Watts

Readers know I’m a huge fan of silence. Next to a rousing Luis Leon sermon, my favorite time in church is those few moments before the music begins and I sit amongst the quiet. The brain never sleeps and is constantly working, unfortunately we have yet to find a way to harness its energy so we can make use of its potential. It is said we are absorbing much more information than we can process. I believe the soul is similarly receiving constant whispers from God, but we do not hear him because of the sounds of the world – the noise, the hurry, and distraction which life causes as it rushes forward.

It is in the quiet that the soul hears the whispers of God and is able to calm the mind and spirit. Take time today to listen to the whispers of God.
