Travels

Know that I am with you and keep you wherever you go… Genesis 28:15

When I was on sabbatical I collected quotes in a journal, and a few friends would send me bible verses from time to time. I received the above verse the day before I was shipped out for “diesel therapy” for the Christmas season. I didn’t know I was leaving the comfort of my cubicle in Cumberland, Md. when I got the verse. But as it turned out, I was very glad to have received God’s reassurance before I faced some of my most difficult moments

We all, from time to time, find ourselves in a place where we’d prefer not to be. Know that God is with you, and that the best place for us at the time is where God puts us. There are times we don’t understand why. I certainly felt that way during my sabbatical travels, wondering what good could possibly come from being in some of worst of the worst places in America, but I was never alone. Wisdom teaches us that when God takes away what has been given us, he knows how to replace it or substitute it with something better or even better — himself.

God never promises to take away our trials, but he does promise to be there with us every step of the way.
