Friday After Ash Wednesday

Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like-minded one toward another. – Romans 15:5

Let patience have her perfect work. – James 1:4

Very few people give up patience for Lent, at least not on purpose. But all that sacrifice can make us irritable and cause us to lose the virtue of patience. The exercise of patience involves a continual practice of the presence of God. Only when we act out in love when we face unkindness, only when we master our will under provocation, only when we act with gentleness and grace during a fiery trial and unmerited wrong – only then will we understand the “manner of spirit” that was in Christ.
