Wednesday in the First Week of Lent

And oft, when in my heart was heard

Thy timely mandate, I deferred

The task, in smoother walks to stray;

But thee I now would serve more strictly, if I may. – W. Wordsworth

For those of you who have been perfect so far in your Lenten discipline – Congratulations. For most of us who have already “stumbled”  simply get back on the horse and ride. Scripture tells us to pray to God to give you a “perfect heart.” But I believe God only expects us to have and to listen to the best heart we can have. Even if our heart is not perfect it is better than none. The same goes for our obedience to our Lenten discipline. Any obedience is better than none. Set your heart and your will toward your goal, and each time you stumble and fall, hit the ground running.
