Fourth Sunday In Lent

There are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. I Corinthians 12:6

Coming across this biblical quote made me look it up in several editions of the Bible. The New Revised Standard version doesn’t use the word diversities instead says, “There are varieties of activities.” Diversity is such a buzz word these days, maybe the next revisionist should consider putting it back in, either way the point is clear “God worketh in  all.”

The passage reminds me all that all injustice based on differences of color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, wealth, or standing is not grounded in or come from God. Much the opposite — since the diversity itself is God’s work, it is our duty to oppose those who would want to exile diversity from our culture or cause anyone harm because they were different.

The passage also goes beyond injustice or diversity. Every change of the season, everything which touches us in mind, body, or spirit, is part of God’s work.  It is our obligation to seek out God’s love in and to bring love and goodness to every activity or operation.
