I Need Help

I read this morning that Johnny Manziel, “Johnny Football,” checked himself into rehab. I admire his courage in asking for help. He had to be hard for a star quarterback, idol of millions, to say “I need help.” I have never been a big fan, but I wish him all the best. Sometimes asking for help is the bravest thing one can do.

It also brought back a wonderful memory, after Kelley was born,Suzy got a call. It was from a woman named Elizabeth Fitzgerald who said, “Mrs. Hubbell I hears you need help.” Suzy, quick on the uptake responded, “I always need help, but what kind of help do you have in mind?” That phone call brought into the lives of our family and friends a gift from heaven. Our housekeeper, friend, counselor, caretaker, etc. Suzy’s openess to admitting she needed “help”, brought a wonderful person into our life.
We all need “help” in some form or the other. The toughest step is the first one, admitting we need help, or in offering “help” to someone we know needs our help.
