Growing Old is Not For Sissies — Anonymous.
The best source for the quote above I could find is that Betty Davis, the actor, said in one of her books, “Old Age ain’t no place for sissies.”
There are almost two thousand meditations in The Hubbell Pew, and I suspect that forgiveness is right up there close to the top in subjects discussed. But I hope I haven’t given off the impression that forgiveness is for the meek and mild. Nor should we limit our forgiveness to the easy. i.e.. “I can forgive our paper carrier for missing the porch this morning.”
The forgiveness that follows acts of torture, betrayal, disloyalty, etc. require a strong soul, mind, and body and a lifetime of work. Often, we think we have accomplished forgiveness only to discover a new layer of resentment and anger beneath the surface layer of forgiveness. That happened to me recently.
True forgiveness requires passion, strength, and a loving heart. Much like a great athlete requires a lot of training, exercise, repetition, and failure to accomplish the goal. But boy is it worth it when true forgiveness is accomplished.
Just remember “Forgiveness is not for sissies”
PS: If you are already humming the Kim Carnes Tune Here’s a link the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPOIS5taqA8
And she’ll tease you, she’ll unease you
All the better just to please you
She’s precocious, and she knows just what it
Takes to make a pro blush…
