Stood On The Beach

Just after daybreak, Jesus stood on the  beach, but the disciples did not know it was Jesus. — John 21:4.

Sometimes I will run across an old friend and not recognize him or her. Usually that is because I see him/her out of context — somewhere or at a time when I wouldn’t expect to see him/her. I expect that is the case with the disciples, but I think the author of the Book of John is trying to say more than that.

Unless we are looking for God in everything we do, we may miss him. What he wants us to do can be like the proverbial snake that’s right in front of us, but we don’t see it until it bites us.

God wants us to be alert, to seek him out, and to be mindful of his presence.

Do you recognize Christ on the shore, in your house, or in your community; or do you just wonder who that person is?
