They Left Everything

…they left everything and followed him. — Luke 5:11.

Can you imagine coming home one evening and saying, “Honey, I love you, but I’ve decided to walk the countryside with a group of friends for the next three years.” I can assure you it wouldn’t have gone over very well in my house. I also read that except for John all of the disciples died as martyrs, many of a painful and agonizing death. Not exactly a walk in the park would you say.

God doesn’t ask us to forgo our families, give up our jobs, or starve, but he does ask we rearrange our priorities. To put God first in our lives and follow the path he laid out for us at our birth.

When you leave everything, you gain the world. Funny how that works out.
