A Tough Act To Follow

We have all heard the expression “She(He) is a tough act to follow.” I ran across the phrase this morning and it got me thinking. What can I do to make my life a tough act to follow. I could be a little more thoughtful, generous, compassionate, and kind, for starters. We go through life trying to be a success in academics, sports, employment, and as parents, but toward the end of one’s life we wonder about things such as the kind of person we were.

Recently, I heard a business associate and friend was literaly on his death bed. We had a falling out many years ago, and over time I realized I could have handled the matter better. I wrote him a long letter apologizing and then saw him in person. I was glad we could reconcile. It caused me to think that I have more apologies I need to make.

We need not try to be better than someone else or be a tough act to follow, we only need to be the best person we can be.
