On The Sixth Day

The Lord has given you the Sabbath, therefore on the sixth day he gives you food for two days, … Exodus 16:29.

We learned during the height of Covid to adjust. Millions worked from home, children attended school remotely (not without problems, but they did endure), and we all learned to do ordinary tasks using computers and cellphones. What we should have learned is that the world will continue to spin if we honor the Sabbath with a day of rest, in whatever form rest takes for you. For some it’s attending worship, others a game of tennis, and for some it’s a morning with the NYT’s crossword.

Important to honoring the Sabbath is an acknowledgement that “on the sixth day” the Lord will provide food/sustenance for two days. For many, including yours truly, the Sabbath is one of God’s greatest gifts, but it wouldn’t happen without the “sixth day.”
