The Gifts He Gave

The gifts he gave were some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, …. — Ephesians 4:11.

I was all ready to write about today’s verse when I by chance looked it up on the Internet. If Google is to be believed every version of this verse except the one above takes out the words, “The gifts he gave.”

Now, I’m certainly no biblical scholar or know what the original Greek meant, but whoever added/or kept in the words “The gifts he gave” got it right. As we decide our next calling after this year’s Lent, it is important to consider our service as a gift not a duty.

I also must remind myself that my age may be a factor in what “gift” I will receive, but it doesn’t exempt me from participating.
