No Never Mind

They band together, they lie in wait, they spy on my footsteps, because they seek my life. — Psalm 56:6.

If you were read the above on social media, you might suggest the author seek counseling. Yet, you probably do know people who begin their day worried about what bad could happen that day, or are constantly concerned that their neighbors or coworkers are out to get them. No, I’m not  talking about murder, but more mundane concerns such as job security, infidelity, or gossip.

My grandmother had the perfect answer when I expressed concerns about a friend who was spreading lies about me or was ganging up against me. She would say, “Don’t pay them no never mind.” Her words weren’t perfect English, but I understood their meaning and have served me well.

We can’t  totally stop those who gang up, spy, or lie in wait for us to make a mistake, but we can pay them “no never mind.”
