Ups and Downs

At some point, you realize that life does indeed have ups and downs. Just when we think thing couldn’t be better, something happens that knocks us down. The good thing is that it works in reverse, when we are down and out, something brings us joy. The longer we live the more we become aware of the cycles of ups and downs.

I have found that during those down cycles I can always find something to be grateful for. When I was going through rehab all I had to do was look to my right or left and there was someone in worse condition than me. They weren’t complaining so why should I. I became grateful that I wasn’t worse off, and that gratitude infected my  therapist and those around me.

When we become grateful during our down times, they don’t last very long. When we are grateful during our up periods they last longer. Gratitude smoothes out the peaks and valleys of life.
