We Will With God’s Help

Suzy and I attended our granddaughters’, Maggie and Riley, christening yesterday. It was a beautiful day and special occasion. I am always taken by the service and especially by the promises the parents, godparents, and congregation to help in the raising of the baptized. Each promise is answered by the words “we will, with God’s help.”

Too often, we think we are to go it alone. The Baptismal covenants are a reminder that in all things we need a little help from the almighty. Life is hard, certainly raising children is a challenge, and the words we recited yesterday remind us that God is not only here to help, but God plays a role in the upbringing and lives of us all.

I know a little bit about tough times, we all do. Let’s not forget that we will get through them with grace, with God’s help.
