Sow Love

Where there is hatred, let us sow love. — Saint Francis.

One cannot help but be concerned these days. Wars in the Ukraine, the Middle East, and in Africa seem to have no solution or end. Recently protests on college campuses have become more violent, and the language spoken is vitriolic. I certainly am reminded of my college days and the Vietnam War protests.

There was a lot of bad behavior back then, violence, and I believe many of the protesters now regret especially their conduct toward young servicemen and women when  they would return. That said, the one thing that seems to be missing on college campuses, in the Ukraine, the Middle East, and in Africa these days — where are those spreading love?

In the Vietnam days one couldn’t attend a rally or protest without a good dose of love. Love would show its face with music, flowers, prayer, and other forms of kindness. Jesus admonished us to “Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.” Among the bad stuff was a healthy dose of love.

The issues around the world are difficult and will only be resolved when we dial down hatred. How do you and I do that — “Sow Love wherever we go.”

PS: Here is a question for you: “What is your favorite song of love and peace? Then ask yourself, do my children know the words and the tune?

  1. I have been thinking exactly this! I have wondered why the college administrators haven’t had better perspective and been less confrontational although the vile antisemitism by some students has been unacceptable.
