Desert Tears

One of the many prophecies in Frank Herbert’s science fiction series is that “”He shall be brought back from the dead with Spring Desert tears.” No, I’m not going to be a spoiler, but I will recommend you watch the new Dune movies. — Part 1 and 2. They are science fiction at its best. Frank Herbert’s “Dune” series of books are classic.

But today, let’s focus on “tears” and specifically “spring desert tears.” The mere expression “desert tears” creates questions and images. In the desert, water is especially valuable, so are tears are to be preserved. In books about the desert, humans are told to save their tears, but is that because of water’s value or the tears themselves.

We find the answer in today’s Psalm 56:8. “You have noted my lamentations; put my tears in your bottle; are they not recorded in your book?”

In each of our lives, there is a time for tears. Do not be embarrassed by them; but instead, recognize their value — so valuable, God keeps them in a bottle for safekeeping.
