Affiliation is a word that deserves a moment’s thought. I am affiliated with the state of Arkansas and its university. I made a conscious connection to the state and the school, and I remain a loyal Razorback and feel grounded when I am there. I gave the Razorbacks something, and they gave me much more in return. The Razorbacks are part of my identity. We are all affiliated with our family, we belong to “our people” as they belong to us. Most of my readers are affiliated with the USA. It is our country, and when it acts with courage and selfishly we are honored to part of that affiliation.
We all share one common affiliation — God. The question that is important to ask is how do we express our affiliation? I don’t mean to say we should become cheerleaders, but do we express our affiliation with the same degree of loyalty that we do to our school, our spouse, our family, and our country? Do we honor God with our words, our deeds, the daily choices we make, and our hearts?
A second question to ponder – If we all share the same affiliation, God, shouldn’t we also recognize that each and every one of us is part of the same affiliation, membership, and team? Shouldn’t we recognize each and every human as family?
