and come to comfortable rest
in the certainty that those who
participate in this life
with an attitude of compassion
will receive its full promise.
I have struggled with my weight since I quit playing football. I suspect I am not alone in my efforts to get back in football shape if the billions of dollars spent on diet food, plans, books, special exercise plans, etc. are any indication. We all search for that magic pill that will melt the extra pounds away.
But, Webb, what does that have to do with an “Attitude of Compassion.” Well, read carefully, one could read Benedict to offer a “magic pill” to life’s promise. It got me to thinking, what if I spent as much time on an compassionate attitude as I did on gaining and losing a human being every year perhaps I’d be a lot better off. In fact, I suspect if I spent a lot more time on compassion, my weight just might take care of itself, along with a lot of other problems I let control my day.
How wonderful it would be if your children, friend, and family all remember you for just one thing it would be your attitude of compassion? How delightful it would be if your grandchildren when asked by their children about their grandfather or grandmother would say he/she had an “attitude of compassion?”
This morning we can all “begin again” to work on our attitude of compassion. Let’s all hope we are more successful than I have been on my multiple “my diet begins on Monday” plans. For we know if we do our life will receive its full promise.
