Each day carries the potential
To bring the experience of heaven;
Have the courage to expect good from it.
Be gentle with this life,
And use the light of life
To live fully in your time.
We all experience people who seem to fight with each day. They fight with the weather, they argue with their colleagues, breakfast is always served wrong and their computer is talking back to him/her. That’s just how it starts and it only gets worse. Nothing is ever good enough, the stock market can’t go high enough, their clothes are too tight or too loose, and God forbid you ask them how they are feeling. They are not fun to be around, and if on that rare occasion we may fall into that category we are not even fun to be with ourselves.
I think that is why the words be “gentle with this life” have so much appeal and meaning to me. Others that strike home are “bring the experience of heaven,” “experience good from it,” and “live fully in your time.” They express an attitude toward life and to each and every day. The author is telling us that each day brings to each and every one of us the potential to bring and experience a little bit of heaven here on earth. That every day is indeed our day, and it is up to us to “live fully.”
As you begin this morning and end your meditation ask yourself do I want to fight against the day or be gentle with the day. I hope you opt for the one that allows you to “live fully in your time.”
