Sometimes we think of change as an event. We have a birthday, get a new job, get married or divorced, have a child or lose a friend. But most change is not sudden, it is gradual. The promise of the change of Advent, of God entering our life, is merely a beginning. Very seldom does the holy spirit descend and miraculously we become candidates for sainthood. We watch a child open a present and counsel patience as he/she goes through wrapping, ribbons, a box and annoying attachment devices until finally the child reaches the prize. God coming into our life is like going through many layers of wrapping. We must be patient with the process of change, recognizing that every layer of the past and every layer of the old self that is removed ultimately takes us to whom we are meant to be.
Advent 14
Patience is still a virtue, especially when change is all around you.It will come, it will certainly come.
