Love

If you believe in love, you believe in God.

Another one of those quotes that popped into my brain this morning, and I do not know the source. I guess I should Google it.

We have all experienced love in some form whether it be romantic love, parental love, love of animals, etc. Most of us have known many forms of love and are like me are still in love and love so very many and much. The absence of love is painful, and I suspect we have all felt that emotion as well. So if you believe in love, do you believe in God?

This morning I pondered that question knowing every form of love is not only a gift of God, but a foggy window’s view of God. Every time we feel consumed by love for another person that feeling is but a small measure of the love God has for each and every one of us.  Love matures whether it be for a spouse you’ve loved for many years, love for children that remains unconditional even as they develop their own lives and loves, love for parents that over the years sees their faults and weaknesses but is still present and even stronger, and yes love for those who have hurt us and abandoned us and we never thought we could love again.

Perhaps our love of God and God’s love for us matures as well. It’s something worth thinking about.

Another truth is that God is the source of all love, and if that is true I must believe in God. I have seen and felt love and loved in hundreds of ways. So yes I believe in love, so I must believe in God.
