Resign

Oh Lord! My best desires fulfil,

And help me to resign,

Life, health, and comfort to thy will,

And make Thy pleasure mine – Wm. Cowper

I have some friends who never accepted the fact that their football playing days were over and were lost when it happened. A few never recovered. I have friends who have addictions that they cannot imagine living without. They fear the person they might become without the alcohol, pills, or abusive spouse. Each of us at least once, and for most of us often, must face the reality about our circumstances, our health, or our future. We take on a heavy heart weighted down by the truth that there are other things in life sweeter than God’s plan for us. Yet, to master perfect freedom, we must learn to consent to his will and go forward trusting in his wisdom. Can’t say this is easy, but it’s essential.

We may believe that what we face is too difficult, too painful, and just too much, but nothing is intolerable that is necessary. So when life binds you in ropes too tight to loosen and too strong to break lie thee down gently and ask God to do what he pleases. At that moment your heart and soul will be set free to love and serve God.
