Distant Soaring Ranges

“…he was like a man who stands upon a hill above the town he had left, yet does not say ‘The town is near,’ but turns his eyes upon the distant soaring ranges.”
― Thomas WolfeLook Homeward, Angel
Who amongst us hasn’t set our sights on the “distant soaring ranges” and turned away from what we already had. I think God wants us to dream, to work toward the greater good, but I wonder after these many years whether if on occasion we shouldn’t say “The town is near,” and there is much work to be done there.
I have no great wisdom here, just a thought that occupies this morning’s meditation.
