I’ve Earned It

In the movie A Few Good Men, Jack Nicholson insists on being called Colonel, saying he believed he had earned it. Later his words come back when the Judge tells him that he is to be called Judge or Your Honor, he knew he had earned it.

Both characters were asking for respect from others based on their accomplishments and position.

One of Jesus’s messages to us all is that everyone one of us is entitled and worthy of respect. That respect is not something we earned or acquired, but comes with us at birth. Yes, one can say that through our actions, deeds, or position we are entitled to a different form of respect, but basic respect is different.

When we treat every person we encounter with respect, we are honoring God’s creation. He/she has certainly earned it.
