Winds and Waves

They went to him and woke him up, shouting, “master, master, we are perishing!” And he woke up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves. — Luke 8:24.

I would need a thousand toes and fingers to be able to count the times I finally turned to God, only after I tried unsuccessfully to work myself out of my life’s storms and floods. God would have been right to ask me like Jesus asked his disciples, “Where is your faith?” But he didn’t, not one single time. He is patient that way. He welcomed my inquiry or request for help without judgment and always with love.

It’s in our nature to believe we are in control, and when it finally hits us that we aren’t, we often ignore the obvious and continue to scream at the wind.

Today’s verse is there as a reminder to turn to God when the winds blow and waters surge in our life. He will always reveal his love and concern.
