My brethren, count it all joy, when ye fall into divers temptations, knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. James 1:2,3
Lent is a time of practicing patience. We have need of patience with ourselves and others; with those who love us, and for those who love us not. Our patience and our faith is put to the test by the greatest of things and for the least. Disappointments test our patience, such as today’s weather, the breaking of a heart, the weariness in our bones, and the wearing of the soul. We lose our patience at our own failures and the failures of others, and in delayed hopes.
But Lent teaches us that in all these things and many more, from childhood’s little troubles to the suffering of martyrs, patience is the grace of God, and when we exercise it we endure for the love of God.
